22th May 2010: Internazionale - Bayern Munich
INTERNAZIONALE
As FC Internazionale Milano's quest to lift the UEFA Champions League for the first time nears its conclusion, three key members of their team – Javier Zanetti, Wesley Sneijder and Esteban Cambiasso – are exuding calm.
The trio met the media on the eve of the final, Inter captain Zanetti summing up the serene mood: excited but understated. "It's an absolutely unique sensation; the Champions League is a highly prestigious tournament which I've followed for so many years and always really wanted to win," said the 36-year-old, who has already skippered the Milanese giants to Serie A and Coppa Italia success this season. "This final comes at a time of great happiness for me; I've experienced some strong emotions this year but this is going to top the lot. "I have played a lot of finals but this one, for all it stands for, is a very special one". I hope we'll all be happy after the match because this team really deserves it."
Sneijder and Cambiasso are back on familiar ground having both had spells at Real Madrid CF, the latter swapping the Santiago Bernabéu for San Siro only last summer. "It's nice to be back," Sneijder said. "Today I saw some people I'd not seen for a year so that's nice. I expect a great final. When I left Madrid I didn't have a plan. I wasn't thinking of coming back for the Champions League final, but over the season we've been great. "We all fight together and we all win together; it's amazing to be part of this team"."
BAYERN MUNICH
Mark van Bommel and Bastian Schweinsteiger are convinced the opportunity to complete the most successful season in FC Bayern München's illustrious history will spur the team to victory in the UEFA Champions League final.
With the Bundesliga shield and German Cup already in the trophy cabinet back in Munich, Bayern would complete a clean sweep by defeating FC Internazionale Milano – who are in exactly the same position having won Serie A and the Coppa Italia – at the Santiago Bernabéu. "We have a positive attitude," Schweinsteiger told the pre-match press conference. ""The atmosphere is great within the team. Every player knows that we can achieve something historic"; we can become the first team from Germany to win the treble so every one of us can't wait to play, and win, this final. We had a great evening [at the German Cup final] in Berlin and I assume it will be an even greater evening on Saturday."
VERDICT
Both teams are looking for the triple crown tonight. Inter seem more motivated as the Champions league is missing for too many years now and also they have probably the best manager today. Bayern is a solid team that die hard, as all german teams, but they seem to lack the in the defence side: 9 goals conceeded in the last (away) 5 championship games. For the offensive side they will miss a key player like Ribery.
Inter have a solid defence and a powerful forwards, despite that thy scored only 4 goals in the last 5 games (away).
Go for a draw here, Inter to win the champions league or under 2,5
